Some time ago I was watching a video of a motivational speaker about him being proud of the culture he grew up in.

“If there is no pride why would you need to recreate it?” this was one statement of his that caught my attention.

It alerted me to the fact that unless our children and youngsters take pride in what they believe in, they will not dare to reflect or recreate that!

Dare you! 

As parents are we showing Christ to our children in a way that they are proud of Him and bold enough to live for Him? Are we giving our Creator the glory that is due to Him so that our children can see and stand in awe of that glory?

Our children will begin to live a Christ-like lifestyle when they begin to take pride in Jesus. They will dare to stand against all odds when they are confident of Jesus within them.

And, it will begin with us parents! When we start taking pride in God’s Word to the extent that we are not just professing it, but living it, our children will do the same.

Jesus imitated His Heavenly Father

…because He was forever in awe of Him.

Our children will imitate Christ when they recognize His greatness. And they see God’s greatness, His goodness, and His faithfulness through us parents.

The question we need to ask ourselves is whether the Christ-like culture that we portray intimidating our children and making it like a rule book to be followed or is it motivating them to be Jesus lovers?

Take Christ as your identity

The next thing that spoke aloud in the motivational speaker’s  talk was – “Take this (culture) on as an identity, take some pride in it, it burns through one’s mind and heart… then one would want to do anything for it.”

It’s amazing how the gentiles are echoing the wisdom that comes from the Word of God and using its principles to great success. Indeed when our children recognize their identity in Christ, they will take pride in Him.

“Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God…” 1 John 1: 12

Our methods of training and bringing up our children in the ways of the Lord will all go in vain if we fail to instil within our children their true identity in Christ – Children of the Living God! And then the Word of God will burn through their hearts and minds and cause them to create God-ordained avenues in every sphere of life.

Nothing can stop them

As parents, teachers and elders, it’s time we stop making our children imitators of something that they are told to believe. Instead let’s take efforts to make Jesus real in their lives.

If you are telling your children that Jesus is our healer, encourage them to lay hands and pray for the sick. If you are telling them that God is our provider, encourage them to give. And when they see Jesus coming true to His Word, they will begin to grow in their faith.  Then there will be nothing that can stop them from believing the impossible because their hearts are burning with a fervor to reveal the glory of God to the world around them i.e; they will dare to create.

I believe if we seek God’s wisdom to help our children be proud of the Word (Jesus), how great will be its effect on them that they will explode in their faith and their influence will spread across all nations.

Let us in one heart seek God’s wisdom to nurture our generation to be the generation that is called to be – The Enoch Generation, the generation that walks in intimacy with God.
