Pride in the Metaverse: Blockchain tech creates new opportunities for LGBTQ+ people

The Metaverse and NFTs allowed people across the world to celebrate Pride Month in various ways.
From musical concerts, and festivals to corporate team meetings, everything that could be possible in the real world was now being replicated virtually, fueled by the power of blockchain technology and AR/VR.
Akbar Hamid, co-founder of People of Crypto Lab (PoC)– told Cointelegraph that the Metaverse was an incredible way of allowing people from around the world to participate in those events. way they might not be otherwise allowed to participate. “We want Pride Month 2022 to be an event that anyone can attend, even in countries where people are not allowed to participate,” he said.
This was also the first NFT project in the sandbox that allows users to customize avatars using pronouns which would include avatar traits more than 36 different skin colors, with cultural identifiers like the hijab along with features celebrating difference like prostheses.
Although Pride Month was celebrated openly in many places, 71 countries are currently criminalizing being LGBTQ+.
