New Alabama Law On Banning Transyouth Gender Affirming : Health Care Goes Into Effect

An Alabama law that makes it a felony to provide gender-affirming medical treatment to transgender youth went into effect while a federal judge weighs whether to grant a motion to put a temporary hold on it.
Gender-affirming surgery for people under 18 is extremely rare and would take place only after years of treatment in cases where the patient’s wishes are unwavering, according to medical experts.
Early in April, Republican Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed a law which makes it punishable by up to ten years in prison to provide puberty blockers, hormone treatments, or transition surgery to anyone under 19 years old.
