How to Nurture your Children as Arrows in your Quiver (Part 1/3, Arrow Series)

“Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.” – Psalm 127:4
Imagine standing on a vast field, bow in hand, preparing to launch an arrow into the sky. Each arrow represents a child, full of potential and promise, designed to make its mark in the world. This vivid imagery invites us to rethink child-rearing. Our children are not mere possessions to control; they are dynamic forces ordained by God waiting to be shaped and released.
Let’s delve deeper into this powerful metaphor.
Arrows, Not Guns
A gun is a tool of destruction, designed to inflict pain and death. It is a symbol of force and control. In contrast, an arrow is a tool of precision, carrying the potential for great impact. It requires skill, focus, and direction.
This is the essence of parenting. Our role is not to dominate our children but to equip them with Biblical principles, skills and values to navigate life’s challenges. By fostering their unique strengths and instilling resilience, according to the leading of the Holy Spirit we prepare them for a meaningful journey.
Parents as Archers
As parents, we are the archers who shape, sharpen and in due time release our arrows. We should sharpen them in love, discipline, and in walking with the Holy Spirit.
Just as an archer carefully crafts their arrows, we nurture our children by:
Selection:
While we don’t physically select our children, we do choose how to respond to their unique personalities and talents. We must identify their strengths and weaknesses, and provide appropriate guidance. Seek the Holy Spirit for direction and He surely will begin to show you your child’s assignment.
Maintenance:
Just as an arrow needs proper care to fly straight, our children need consistent love, godly discipline, encouragement, and spiritual nourishment. This involves providing them with a strong Biblical values, love for the Word, teaching them the Word’s way and the worldly way of doing things and fanning their faith in everything they do.
Direction:
The quiver protects the arrows until the right moment to release them. As parents, we must help our children discover their purpose in life and prepare them to shine as lights in this dark world, and like a city that is built on a hill that cannot be hidden.
IN THE PART 2 OF THE ARROW SERIES, I WILL PRESENT TO YOU A SPIRITUAL PERSPECTIVE OF THE WORD QUIVER. SO STAY TUNED…
