How Your Parenting Can Change From Bitter To Better

by | Jan 24, 2023 | Spiritual Growth

Children are a beautiful gift from God. And, to be a mother and a father is a blessed role. But let’s be honest, parenting is not easy. It requires a lot of courage and God’s grace.

When I became a mother of twins in 2021, my life changed drastically. I wasn’t warned, expecting or prepared for a complete life transformation.

When things seemed out of my control

Both my babies had two different sleep routines which left me with hardly 2-3 hours of sleep in a day. I spent an entire year waking up every 1-2 hrs attending a crying baby.

I was tired and sleep deprived. My body was hurting and my mind couldn’t think properly. Things seemed out of my control.

All I could talk about was how difficult it is to manage two newborns. The condemning voice of the enemy rang loud in my ears saying how I’m not a good mother.

I was feeling bitter.

Bitter or Better?

One day I remember saying to the Lord I don’t know how to do this. This is not easy.

I sensed the Lord say that I can either be bitter or I can be better. God didn’t want me to merely survive each day, He wanted me to excel in my calling- everyday.

This is my biggest parenting lesson from 2022- Parenting can make you either better or bitter. The choice is yours!

I understood that if I can surrender my motherhood to the hands of my Father, and trust Him who entrusted me with these children, I can raise excellent children for the Lord. Now my parenting is no ordinary, but godly.

I had to understand that my role is to be a good steward of these gifts from God. In the end, they belong to the Father.

From then on, everyday as I surrendered my motherhood to the Lord, I saw the grace of God unfold like I have never seen before.

When I stopped complaining and started giving situations I couldn’t handle to the Lord, He began giving me solutions. He showed me how I can break habits and patterns in my babies that were not good and build habits that were good.

Situations that seemed out of control slowly began to see order as I surrendered everyday.
Though there are still tough days and tough nights at times, I have learned to thank God for the good, and for every little progress.

Take your problems to the feet of Jesus

Parents, you can either be bitter, or be better parents in the hands of God. I encourage you, when you see a problem that seems out of your control, instead of complaining and blaming your children or spouse or anyone, give it to the hands of the Father who is able to give you solutions that can turn the impossible to possible.

The more you carry an attitude of gratefulness and faith, the more you will be able to hear the sweet Holy Spirit who can give you ideas and strategies to change any difficult situation.

Parents, especially new parents, no matter how difficult it may seem, if we can change our complaining attitude, if we can choose faith over all our fears, if we can choose to be better rather than being bitter, slowly but surely we will begin to see a beautiful transformation, not only in our children, but also in our own lives.

I wish happy parenting for you this year.
