How Can I Change The World For My Children?

by | Dec 5, 2022 | Spiritual Growth

Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. Philippians 4:6

Every time we read the newspaper or hear the news headlines we find ourselves living in a mess. Nothing seems to be right. What we see and hear is only chaos, destruction, hate, and misery and it sounds unending. The world around us that is in close proximity to our life is in no better condition. And in such a condition a thought comes, “Am I messing up my child’s life?” “Is there a way I can change the world around my children so they grow well?”

Yes, there is the Way, Jesus!

When we read about the birth of Jesus in all four gospels we tend to miss out on the situation in Judea. The nativity images are always shown as a very calm and serene atmosphere. But if we ponder on this closely after King Herod announced the census, the situation was chaotic. People began moving with their households. There was an exodus of people to their native land. Crowds moving, shortage of food, no accommodation, family members getting lost, and along with this comes, fear, anxiety, confusion, and for many even a lack of direction.
Joseph too had to move with Mary who was ready to give birth. Today, who would dare to travel in the last trimester on a donkey? Joseph and Mary too wouldn’t have if they had not got a word from God. They moved out with this assurance that, “the power of the Most High will overshadow them [like a cloud];” –Luke 1:35

God’s Word to the couple assured them direction, protection, and provision. Joseph and Mary too could have thought like us, “Are we messing up this child’s life?” The chaos, and circumstances in our lives, are not always in our hands directly, and our children witness everything. We can’t do much with external situations but like Joseph and Mary, we can choose to come under the shadow of the God Most High.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) chose a time as chaotic as the census to bring forth peace into the situation of Joseph and Mary. No matter what was happening around them, Jesus was born into the chaos and the peace of God stood guard over their hearts and minds (Philippians 4:9). When we make our choice to allow Jesus to guide us to bring up our children the peace of God which is beyond all understanding will give us an assurance about our children’s future. As we trust God and move in His peace remember we cannot mess up our children’s life.

The Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ assures you this day, “I stand guard over your hearts and minds towards your children.” (Philippians 4:9) “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)
