How Your Change In Lifestyle Can Bring Change in Your Children

It is said resolutions are made to be broken but I say if resolutions are made in love it is the beginning of a transformation. Our love for Christ is determined by our lifestyle and the renewing begins as we make a choice to walk in the will of God, in His plan and purpose for our lives. As parents, we make this choice in the love of Christ for our children so they grow in godly values and ethical attitudes.
Set Priorities Right:
God instituted marriage, a family so that we are there one for another. This reason is fading off and each family member is growing in a cocoon. Let us get back to God’s purpose and set our priorities right. Let us shift our focus to things in the matter of importance – GOD, FAMILY, CAREER/MINISTRY etc. Yes, let us learn to say NO to the so-called urgent things that take the most valuable time – time with our loved ones.
This helps us give time to ourselves as well as our family members.
Set Aside Time:
As adults and parents once we have set a time for one another we will easily get time to spend with our children. It could be as casual as sitting and having a conversation with them or playing an indoor game. Show interest in their interests and encourage them to do better. Take a vacation or have a time out with them.
Set a Specific Screen Time:
Talk the Word of God:
The best way to spend quality time with your child is by talking to them about your God. It is best to make this time fun, interesting, and not formal. Talk to them about your experiences with God, and tell instances of how God was faithful to you. You can do this as you are driving them to school, doing house chores, or relaxing with them casually. Tell them stories from the Bible and testimonies of God’s goodness.
Family Prayer Time:
A family prayer time before going to bed is the best way to connect with your children emotionally. Once again not the formal kinds that have been coming down through generations. Spend at least ten minutes talking, if smaller children tell them a Bible story, older children discuss a story. Take something based on what the family is going through or the child is going through. Pray for your situation, and encourage your children too to pray for it. It makes a big difference!
