Question: What do you do when you find out that a pack of Tarot cards hidden in your teenager’s cupboard?
Here are three things you can do:
1) Calm down
Hear this teenager venting out in an online chat forum:
“My family happens to be extremely Christian and I knew they’d hate me practicing so I bought some decks and kept them hidden in my room. Apparently my mom found my decks and was super upset at me, gave me this big lecture about how it’s satanic and summons demons and she even blamed my mental health problems on me owning them.”
“In the end she made me throw them away in front of her and I’ve been really sad ever since. The good money I spent on them aside I had a really good bond with my decks and truly cherished them deeply so throwing them away was like losing my friends. Now I will try installing a tarot app on your phone – A lot easier to hide and what’s she gonna do now, throw away my phone?
Don’t react out of anger. Be led and prayerfully ask the Holy Spirit to help you initiate a conversation with your child. Your knee-jerk reaction can push your child further away from you, and your God.
2) Give them understanding
As you see above, if you stifle your children without giving them understanding, they will start indulging in these things in hiding. Your child may have picked up divination out of some wrong understanding in their head, and the way you win over them is by giving them a higher understanding from the Word, which is why we want you to read this book or pass it on to the youth you know. Fact is, if we don’t, in love, influence our children with the Word, the world will snatch them away with their filth.
3) Spend more time with Jesus and your child
May your children see your walk with God and may they fall in love with the Jesus you serve. We may not be perfect as parents, but may we keep growing in our surrender to the Lord. Also spend more time with your children, and keep speaking life-giving words over them, emphasizing on who they are and their worth.
