How Your Tears Can Move Your Little Ones

I believe tears are the best worship one can give God. And I am not talking about tears of self-pity, dissatisfaction, fear or worry. But tears of gratefulness and surrender – Your precious alabaster jar that is only meant to be broken at the feet of Jesus.
This kind of worship cannot be forced, rather it is an overflow of the abundance of your heart.
Stop these sad songs!
Often when I worship, I can’t help but cry at the goodness of my Father and His hand of grace over my life.
I noticed some time ago that my 6 year old daughter would force me to change the worship songs on my playlist whenever I would play them out loud. She would keep insisting until one time I asked her, “Baby, why? You don’t like these songs?”
And she replied, “No, these songs are sad.”
Little surprised at her observation, I explained to her that these were not sad songs.
Then she said, “Mama, then why do they make you cry when you hear them?
Wow! That’s quite an observation.
I had to explain to her that when Mama is crying when singing these songs, not because Mama is sad, but because Mama loves Jesus and is so thankful to Him. Those are happy tears!
Ahh, now she got it!
It didn’t take long before I could see her take baby steps of showing her emotions in different ways whenever we worshipped as a family.
Tears are powerful
Hey Dada and Mama, when was the last time you cried in the presence of God? Whether in a church gathering or in your personal or family worship time.
The more your children see you extravagant in your worship to Jesus, the more they will imitate you.
Tears are powerful because they tender a hardened heart. I somehow believe the church today has lost its tears. Our prayers and worship is more like words and songs from our heads, rather than from our hearts.
Next time when you worship
…. remember your audience.
And no, it’s not the people around you
Not even your children or spouse who may be with you.
Your audience is only one – Jesus.
That’s why you don’t have to perform. That’s why you don’t have to care about how undignified your worship is for others. After all, it was never meant for them.
Laugh if you have to, cry if you have to, dance if you have to. Just get lost in loving Jesus. And you will see what you do will be contagious.
Nobody will have to teach your children how to worship, they will be pulling the presence of God like no one else!
