How Your Personal Covenants with God Can Impact Your Children

by | Jun 19, 2023 | Spiritual Growth

A covenant, in simple terms, means a promise.

Our God loves covenants! In fact He is a covenant keeping God.

Because God had made a covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, He caused his deliverance and blessing to come upon the children of Israel (Exodus 2:24).

Just as God makes covenants with us throughout the Bible, Parents, do you know – You can also make covenants with God that can cause blessings and breakthroughs to come upon your children, and your children’s children.

God doesn’t forget!

Every sacrifice you do you to the Lord is held in high esteem by Him. It may seem insignificant in the eyes of the world, but every time you offer to God something that costs you, God looks at it as a covenant.

It could be as simple as:

Your decision to rise up early every day and prioritise to give your first hour to God despite your crazy schedule.

Giving up your social media to get better focused on things that hold eternal value.

Your faithfulness in sowing consistently in His kingdom.

Giving up your favourite serial or phone chatting time in order to spend quality time with the Holy Spirit.

Showing up half an hour early to church just to serve.

Letting go of those extra hours of work and money to come home early and spend time meditating on Scriptures.

Making covenants out of revelation

Every time you choose to do something for Jesus, which is birthed out of a revelation to you (and not just because of information or imitation), God holds it in high regard.

Make covenants with God that are birthed in the Word. There is this thing about covenant. A covenant causes you to be remembered.  People can forget, but the

God you serve has a very good memory. When you make a promise, He gives you the grace to fulfil it, and when you fulfil it, He remembers and causes a blessing to come upon your life, and even for your generations to come!

Psalm 105:8 says, He has remembered His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations.

Even personally for me, so many times I sense the hand of God upon different areas of my life, which I know in my spirit are because of the sacrifices and covenants my grandparents and parents made with God.

In 2 Timothy 1:5 when Apostle Paul talks about Timothy, he says, When I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.

In other words, the secret covenants that Timothy’s grandmother and mother made — their choice to believe God’s Word despite all odds had caused a blessing to come upon Timothy’s life without him striving for it.

Dear Mom and Dad, even as you are reading this, I encourage you to make covenants with God that will cause victories in the lives of your children and even their generations to come.  That’s the best legacy you can leave for your children!
