How To Invite God’s Hand Over Your Children

Wow! That was such a powerful statement that Paul made, as he was writing to his spiritual son Timothy from the prison. Locked within the four walls of the prison, when it seemed that there was no hope, Paul was fully convinced of the goodness and faithfulness of God. I can almost picture him making that statement with great joy and singing!
Paul had journeyed with this God long enough to know who held him.
May be he was also reminded of brother Peter, who a few chapters before was in a similar situation like him. Peter was bound in chains in a prison, all set to be executed by Herod, the same king who had mercilessly killed James (Acts 12) . But Peter didn’t lose his sleep. In fact, he was so peacefully sleeping that he didn’t know an angel stood beside him, until the angel had to strike him on his side.
Like Paul, Peter was fully persuaded.
Dear parents, your children are given to you by God. Be fully persuaded that no matter how distant they may seem to be from God and the kingdom of light at the moment, God is able to keep them.
Here are two keys that Paul gives us that invite the hand of God over our children:
One, Know whom you have believed
Most of us just have a mental knowledge of who God is and mentally we believe. Growing up as a christian, it has been grilled into our minds. But do you really know whom you have believed? Do you know His heart, Do you know His ways? Do you lose sleep when things go beyond your control or you stand persuaded? May we grow in the understanding of this God this season..
Two, Know that He is able to keep what you have committed to Him
That implies surrender! Surrender your children to God. Surrender is not “letting go” or you “doing nothing”. Surrender means you seeing your children the way God sees them, and you saying about your children what God says about them.
Surrender is you standing on the Word, and not letting go!
Let me end with Psalm 128:1-4
Blessed is every one who fears the Lord,
Who walks in His ways.
You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you.
Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine
In the very heart of your house,
Your children like olive plants
All around your table.
Behold, thus shall the man be blessed
Who fears the Lord.
