How to Cement God’s Identity in Your Children – Take it or Shake it!

by | Jun 28, 2023 | Spiritual Growth

Your children are a gift, a reward and like arrows in your quiver. Even as the enemy tries to infiltrates their mind and hijack them in the ways of the world, as parents we need to diligently establish God’s view of them in their hearts. And the more early we do that, the more the Word is able to guard them from the lies of the enemy.

As parents, we need to keep declaring over our children what God says about them. No matter how distant your child may be at the moment from that reality, you need to function like God and call those things that are not as though they are (Romans 4:17).

Take it or Shake it game

Sharing something that works with my children. We often play the game:  “Take it” or “Shake it”. Rule of the game is this: You may hear people say words to you. If they sound good and encouraging – then you “Take it”.  If not, then don’t worry about it, just “shake it off”.

I have stuck two charts with their individual names on the walls of our bedroom.

So every time they hear something appreciative about them from their teachers or elders, we take it!

And how?

By writing it on the chart. And this chart is placed at a location where their eyes can see it constantly. So it serves as a reminder for them as to who they are!

On the other hand, every time they hear something that weighs them down, we shake it off! We take correction, we learn, we grow, but we don’t take that negative word as who we are!

I realized in simple ways, we can be intentional about raising no ordinary children. Holy Spirit is brilliant at ideas!

Do you have any other ideas that have worked well for you? We would love to hear…
