How to Make Your Children Used to the Bible

When young David was getting ready to fight his battle with Goliath, Saul put his coat of armour on him and a bronze helmet on his head. But when David tried walking around, he struggled.
Reason?
David said: “I cannot go in these because am not used to them.” (1 Samuel 17: 38,39).
David was so used to fighting his battles depending on God, whether it was the lion, bear or Goliath, that he could not depend on any other weapon that the world had to offer.
What are we making our children use to?
Mobile? Ipad? Friends? Television?
As parents, the biggest seed we can sow into the lives of your children getting them “used to” the Bible.
1. Get a physical Bible for them
2. Discipline them to spend time with the Bible every day
Encourage them to be consistent. Ouch! That primarily means that you as a parent will have to be consistent in giving your time for Bible reading with them because most of the children need help to engage with the Bible.
Initially it may sound like a “rule” for them to follow, but slowly it will become a habit for them. That’s what we want! We need to equip our kids not only to read God’s Word but to make it an inseparable part of their lives.
3. Get a full-text Bible (Genesis to Revelation)
Majority of the parents start off by giving their children illustrative storybook Bible, but make the transition to a full-text Bible quick. There are all sorts of wonderful storybook Bibles that do an excellent job of illustrative the Bible stories for children, but nothing can substitute for the actual biblical text. It’s like how we initially give our children cycle with support wheels, but we know that the real deal is make them transition into a proper cycle.
If children can understand and learn their school textbooks, why not the Bible? When the devil doesn’t underestimate our children and their minds, why do we?
The earlier they start reading a full Bible, the faster your children will get used to it.
Before I sign off, here is some food-for-thought,
> What you get used to never happens suddenly, rather when you do it over and over again
> What you are used to is what you will depend upon on the day of your test
